The £50,000 scheme will involve upgrading the surface of the road as a major part of the council's ongoing, low-cost annual maintenance programme. Surface dressing provides added protection to the carriageway surface as well as enhancing the skid resistance, making it safer to drive on. This added protection extends the life of the carriageway surface by up to 10 years.
The surface dressing scheme will require four separate road closures as the work will be done in phases. Phase one, to prepare the surface of the road, will be completed on Wednesday 15 June between 8pm and 6am. Phase two will see the road surface dressed using a daytime closure on Monday 18 July between 8am and 5pm. Phase three will require a daytime closure to seal the carriageway and this will be completed on Monday 25 July between 8am and 5pm. The final stage will be the installation of road markings which will be completed from Wednesday 27 July for five nights using a road closure between 8pm and 6am.
Cllr Steve Hogg, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for roads urged drivers to be patient while the work was completed.
"We appreciate that this scheme will cause some disruption on this busy route. We would ask drivers to avoid the area if possible and be patient while this essential maintenance takes place."
