The bus improvement scheme at Brockley Combe was set to finish mid-March but due to unexpected additional drainage and technical issues relating to resurfacing, the completion date will now be a few weeks later.
Traffic management measures will be in place over the Easter bank holiday weekend, and motorists are being advised to plan their journeys by checking One Network (https://one.network/uk), Google Maps, or local traffic updates before they travel. Access to local businesses, including Brockley Stores, Fountain Timber and Bristol Airport will continue in line with the works.
This will mean the scheme works planned at Wood Hill will not start before mid-April.
Cllr Hannah Young, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at North Somerset Council, said: “Thank you very much for bearing with us as we near the completion of this scheme. The works have taken longer than expected due to the site’s complexity, with unforeseen issues with drainage and resurfacing works.”
The changes at Brockley Combe include:
- New bus lanes Bristol and Congresbury-bound tackling delays caused for buses heading from the airport and in both directions on the A370.
- Changing the current right turn into Brockley Lane and moving it to Chelvey Road further on the A370, to enable the junction to work more efficiently in light of the increasing number of vehicles using the junction.
The scheme forms part of North Somerset’s UK Government-backed Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) to create the conditions to implement and grow the sustainable bus services our communities want and need.
The BSIP is funded by the Department for Transport. More information on the Bus Improvement Service Plan can be found on the council website: n-somerset.gov.uk/bsip
