Members of the public are invited to attend a celebration at The Campus, where they can enjoy a range of free activities that showcase what the centre has to offer.

The event takes place on Saturday 7 September from 11am to 3pm, at The Campus in Weston-super-Mare.

Local community groups who regularly use the space are putting on a variety of demonstrations throughout the day, including dance routines and martial arts displays. Attendees can also take part in interactive taster sessions, such as first aid training.

The event will officially start at 11.30am, led by North Somerset Council’s vice-chairperson Councillor Clare Hunt. A time capsule buried in The Campus’s grounds will be dug up on the day too, and new items will be securely stashed inside.

Councillor Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “Since The Campus first opened its doors in 2004, it’s been at the heart of the local community in Locking Castle.

“The award-winning community centre provides multiple valuable services in one space, from a library and a children’s centre to a café and spaces that are used by local community groups. Baytree School and Herons’ Moor Academy are also located on the site.

“We’re marking the 20-year milestone in style on 7 September. Local community groups will be putting on a fantastic show, from live music to martial arts displays.

“As well as celebrating what we’ve achieved so far, this also gives us a great opportunity to look ahead to what the future holds.”

Councillor Hugh Malyan, one of the ward members for South Worle, added: “The Campus has been – and continues to be – a fantastic local resource, serving both children and adults. It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate the first 20 years, and here’s to the next 20 years!”

The event is completely free to attend, and light refreshments will be provided. You can drop in on the day.
