Workshops involving businesses, residents and community groups will be held to hear views and improvements that could be made to develop and create a new set of designs for the area. Local residents and businesses will receive an invitation to the first workshop in October, with further events planned as part of the design process.
Cllr Hannah Young, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at North Somerset Council, said:
“These community events are the first step in making positive changes to Worle High Street and the surrounding areas.
“The High Street has been identified as a road with significantly high numbers of accidents compared to other areas in North Somerset, with figures also showing that a lot of vehicles use it as a commuter road. We want to improve safety and make enhancements that benefit the entire community.
"This is an opportunity to be part of a positive change for the area. We want to work with residents and businesses to develop these plans together to develop a new plan that will take make positive changes to Worle High Street.”
Once the early designs are created with the local community, the plans will go to a larger public consultation spring 2024.
Funding is available through the Bus Service Improvement Plan to deliver a scheme that supports the use of public transport whilst also giving the opportunity to address a number of issues in the local area. Plans will not solely be based on bus usage, but also on how pedestrians, mobility users, cyclists and motorists utilise the area.
