Do you love being out in the fresh air? Are you reasonably active? Would you like to help other people get healthier? If the answer to these questions is yes, then the free training from North Somerset Council to become a Health Walk Leader is for you!

The council’s Health Walks programme runs weekly at locations across North Somerset. More than 300 walkers join each week.

Now the council is looking for more volunteers to help run the walks and is offering free training.

The training is on Tuesday 15 November from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Castlewood in Clevedon. The session will make sure volunteers have the skills they need to support a current health walk or start a new one in their local area and that all walks are managed to a high standard.

Cllr Mike Bell, Deputy Leader of North Somerset Council and executive member for health, encouraged people to take up the offer of free training:

“Our health walks have been running since 2005. In that time, thousands of people have been helped to get more active and enjoy the health benefits of walking.

“Health walks take place across North Somerset so you could help at one near to you. There are different ways you can help. You could lead or become a back marker, help develop new walking routes or provide administrative support.

“Our amazing volunteers are a key part to the success of our Health Walks programme. If you’re interested, please do book your place and come along to the training day. You’ll be helping to make a real difference and helping people improve both their physical and mental wellbeing.”
