The endowment fund totalling £43,000 comes from Section 106 contributions from housing developers. It will be delivered by Quartet Community Foundation, and Haywood Airfield Leisure Enterprise (HALE) who currently run the community spaces at Haywood Village Academy and invest their surplus back into the community. This residents’ association has been successfully managing and maintaining Haywood’s community hall and sports pitches on behalf of local residents for several years, and is committed to topping up the funding pot every year. By adding to the fund each year, this will help ensure community projects can be financed into the future.
Councillor Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “Haywood’s new Community Endowment Fund gives the local community the power to pay for the projects and activities that matter most to them.
“Investing in communal spaces and activities provides a great opportunity to help strengthen ties between newcomers to Haywood Village and those who have called it home for a while, and will help make the area an even more attractive place to live.
“HALE have superbly looked after Haywood’s community hall and other facilities for the past few years, and I’m sure they will do a fantastic job administering this fund for the benefit of local residents. I’m looking forward to seeing how Haywood Village continues to develop.”
