The new app offers a range of helpful features including bin day reminders, real-time service alerts on any changes to recycling and waste collections, and a comprehensive search tool to check how to recycle items correctly.
As well as accessing recycling and waste services, the app has links to find local councillors, discover nearby council-run facilities, view local food hygiene ratings, plus read the latest council news. Other council services will be added to the app in future.
Councillor Annemieke Waite, North Somerset Council’s executive member for climate, waste and sustainability, said: “We want to make North Somerset a thriving and sustainable place to live, work and visit. Our new app is a big step forward in supporting our residents to recycle as much as they can and waste less.
“A similar version of the app is already used by many other councils with thousands of residents downloading their local version and using it every week.
“When we roll-out the changes to recycling and waste services this June, the app will provide an easy way to track collection day changes. Setting up weekly reminders through the app means residents will never miss bin day again!”
For most households, the recently-announced changes to recycling and waste services being introduced in June include black bin collections switching from fortnightly to three-weekly, and a wider range of recycling materials will be collected every week, including plastic bags and soft plastic wrapping.
The free North Somerset Council app is available to download now from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for Android. Search for “North Somerset Council” or follow the links from www.n-somerset.gov.uk/threeweekly.
