The North Somerset Nappy Library is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. It provides a reusable nappy kit loan service, advice and demonstrations, for parents and carers in North Somerset who would like to try reusable nappies. Kits can be hired for just £10 for a six-week period so people can discover which types of nappies suit them best. The nappy library also offers advice and supports to those already using reusable nappies.

Councillor Annemieke Waite, North Somerset Council’s executive member for climate, waste and sustainability, said: “I’m really glad that the North Somerset Nappy Library has returned. By the time babies are toilet-trained, they’ll have used on average 5,000 disposable nappies. This has a real cost on the environment – and on people’s wallets, too.
“By swapping to reusable nappies, parents and carers can drastically cut down on the amount of plastic they use. Reusing nappies for just one day saves the same amount of plastic as seven carrier bags.
“As cost-of-living pressures continue to bite, we know people are still feeling the squeeze. Reusable nappies are also far more cost-effective than disposables, as they can be washed and reworn – and even sold on to help other families. Parents and carers can expect to save up to £500 by switching from disposable nappies.

Zoe Coupland, one of the North Somerset Nappy Library volunteers, said: “The North Somerset Nappy Library believes that cost should not be a barrier to using reusable nappies, and we wish to make reusable nappies available to as many families as possible.”
