North Somerset Council received 2,120 applications for Reception places for the 2025/26 school year. Figures released today show that 99.43 per cent of families were offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools, with over 96 per cent securing their first choice.
Parents who applied by the national deadline in January will receive their offer today. The figures are:
- First preference met – 96.65 per cent
- Second preference – 2.36 per cent
- Third preference – 0.42 per cent.
Only 12 children were not offered a place at one of their three preferences. This is usually the case when parents or carers don’t use all three preferences or don’t include their local school. However, everyone who included their local school was offered a place.
Parents who applied online will receive their outcome by email today. Anyone who applied using paper forms will receive their offer by either email or post in the coming days.
This year, North Somerset Council has worked with Yatton Infant School to provide extra places in Reception for 2025 to meet the growing demand for school places in Yatton.
Councillor Catherine Gibbons, Deputy Leader of North Somerset Council and Executive Member for Children’s Services, Families and Lifelong Learning, said:
“Starting school is such an important step for children and their families, so I’m really pleased that so many have been offered a place at one of their top-choice schools.
“We are grateful to Yatton Infant School and their Multi-Academy Trust, the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, for helping us secure more places for local children.
“These results reflect the hard work of our admissions team and local schools, who work behind the scenes to make sure the process runs smoothly. I’d like to thank them for their ongoing dedication.”
