A second meeting is now being planned in the town to give more local people an opportunity to find out more about the review and inform its findings. Details will be shared in the coming days.
Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council’s executive member for highways and transport, and a local ward councillor said: “I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to come along last night, to hear about the review, give their views and to listen to those of other local people. I am sorry that the venue we chose wasn’t large enough to accommodate everyone and we will share another date as soon as we’ve booked a suitable venue.
“We are at the very start of the review process and I would like to reassure everyone that there will be plenty of other opportunities to have your say.”
Cllr Mike Bell, Leader of the Council, who chaired the meeting added: “Last night we heard a range of views about the scheme, and the lead reviewer from Aecom, the independent organisation leading the review, was there to listen. Either at the next meeting, or indeed over the course of the review, it’s important that everyone with experience of the scheme gets the chance to be heard. We will make sure this can happen.”
One of the issues raised at the meeting was frustration at motorists who are parking illegally and inconsiderately in the Beach and Hill Road areas, making it more difficult for residents to leave their homes and traders to receive deliveries as well as pedestrians, wheelchair users, cyclists and other motorists to get around.
Cllr Young added: “We don’t need to wait for the review to try and fix this, so as from Monday 24 July our parking officers will be stepping-up their enforcement in these areas and issuing fines to anyone parking illegally.
“I hope this action will reassure people that we are listening.”
