North Somerset Council’s Better Health Healthy Workplaces team has partnered with Pier Health Group, as part of the national cardiovascular disease (CVD) health checks pilot programme.
The checks, which are conveniently delivered in the workplace, spot the early signs of heart disease and provide people with the information they need to reduce their risk of having a heart attack, stroke, kidney disease or developing diabetes or dementia.
More than 1,000 cardiovascular health checks have already been carried out in North Somerset with more booked in, and there is still time for employers to book the checks for their staff.
Cllr Jenna Ho Marris, North Somerset Council’s executive member with responsibility for public health, said:
“I’m delighted so many local workplaces have already taken up this vital, free offer.
“The companies which have taken part have really welcomed these checks are free and tell us it makes their staff feel valued. We still have some spaces left for workplaces to take up this opportunity before the end of May, so please get in touch with our healthy workplaces team to book your workplace in!”
Dr Mavin Kashyap, GP, added:
“Cardiovascular disease is a common cause of ill health globally and develops over a number of years, often without causing symptoms until much later. This health check is a safe, non-invasive assessment with a healthcare professional who’ll then give you advice on your cardiovascular health, based on the results of your assessment, there and then.
“It’s a great way to be curious about your own health and to have a meaningful conversation with a qualified healthcare professional about leading a healthier life. Please get in touch if you're an employer who’s interested in signing up for this offer."
The health checks are for eligible people aged 30 years old and over without a pre-existing heart condition, and the scheme is open to all workplaces across North Somerset.
