The library in the High Street will temporarily close from Monday and is set to re-open on Thursday 22 June at 9.30am.
Registered library members will be unable to use the Extended Access service during this time.
Work taking place includes refurbishing seating, shelving and carpet. The new layout includes a study space and an area where families can enjoy books together. It also includes a new sensory hideaway and discovery cabinets, decorated in a calming and natural colour scheme.
"It’s important that we encourage reading from a young age, so I’m particularly delighted to see that these improvements at Yatton Library will benefit all children and young people,” said Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council's executive member for culture and leisure.
“North Somerset is a great place to grow up, but we want to make childhood fairer for everyone, especially those who are vulnerable, disadvantaged, or have special educational or additional needs. I’m proud of our fantastic library service and the wide range of value that people can get by joining for free.”
North Somerset Council’s Yatton ward has two representatives, Councillors Steve Bridger and Wendy Griggs. They added: “We know that residents cherish our library as a thriving community hub located in the heart of our village. Not only does it offer a wonderful selection of books and host a regular and wide-ranging programme of events for all ages, but it’s also a place for people to access vital support. With over 30,000 visits a year, we really welcome this investment and developer contributions being used to upgrade a facility so valued by the Yatton community.”
Books won't be due back on the extra closed days. You can visit any other LibrariesWest library at any point, including while Yatton is closed, or use our online resources at www.librarieswest.org.uk. Customers can continue to use the returns box outside the library to return items.
The nearest alternative library open on Monday and Tuesday is Clevedon Library (9.30am to 5pm), with Extended Access also available there between 8am and 8pm. Customers can also access eResources, renew items and make reservations from home with their library membership number and PIN at www.librarieswest.org.uk.
The improvement is costing £18,500, which is being funded by local housing developer contributions.
