I can't pay for my care

If you have eligible care needs under the Care Act and you know you are not able to pay for it, we will offer you a financial assessment. This is to determine what you can contribute towards the cost of your care.

We ask the finance team to complete a separate financial assessment when we identify that you have eligible needs. Your social care worker will explain this to you as part of the care assessment process.

Our residential and non-residential charging policies explain the criteria in more detail.

Guidance on the financial assessment process

What we will look at during the financial assessment

The outcome of the financial assessment will depend on your individual needs and circumstances.

We will ask questions about things like

  • your income
  • savings
  • any property you own

This will calculate how much you will need to contribute towards your care and support. You must disclose your financial details to be eligible for funded care and support.

In general, if you:

  • have savings or assets worth less than £23,250 or;
  • your weekly income is not enough to meet the cost of your care

we will provide financial support to meet your care and support needs. This will be done either through a direct payment or by organising the care on your behalf.

Please note this financial threshold may change at the start of each financial year.
