Order a new bin

Our new red recycling bags are currently being delivered to residents. When you receive your red bag, you'll find a leaflet inside that will explain how it changes your recycling.

It will take around eight weeks to deliver all the red bags. If you haven't received yours yet then please carry on recycling as you normally would until it arrives.

If your neighbours have received a red bag but you haven't, let us know by emailing recycling&waste@n-somerset.gov.uk. Once we have done all the main deliveries we will follow up with deliveries of missed containers. You can continue to use your recycling boxes in the meantime.

Extra capacity

The red bags provide an additional 90 litres of space for recycling. Please give the bag a go when it arrives. Most households will find they do not need to order any additional recycling boxes.

We will provide one red bag per property. If you find this is not enough space, you can use any extra recycling boxes you are likely to already have. For more information, visit our dedicated red bag page.

Please be aware that we limit orders to two recycling boxes per household.

If you need to order new bins, you can do it online. You’ll need to register for MyAccount. It only takes a few minutes to register and you’ll be able to access a variety of online services 24 hours a day.

Recycling boxes and food waste containers

You can order additional recycling boxes and food waste containers free of charge.

Our crews deliver around 3,000 recycling and waste containers for new properties, extra capacity and replacement containers each month. We are currently working at 75% of all containers delivered within 28 working days.

To get rid of broken recycling boxes, please take them to your nearest recycling centre.

Black rubbish bin

Each household can only have one black rubbish bin. The standard size is 180L. If your black wheelie bin is lost or damaged you will need to contact us to arrange a replacement.

Please email recycling&waste@n-somerset.gov.uk with your address and details of the problem with your black bin and an officer will help.

If you find your bin is always filling up too quickly before your collection day, check to make sure you are recycling as much as possible. There may also be other ways you can reduce your waste.

If you need more waste capacity

In some circumstances we are able to provide a larger 240 litre black rubbish bin or additional waste capacity in the form of an allowance of extra sacks of waste to put out on your collection day.

To apply for this, you will need to complete and return an application form, included on this page, which includes a two-week waste diary.

Once completed, send your form and request to recycling&waste@n-somerset.gov.uk and an officer will contact you to discuss.

Garden waste bin

If you want to order a garden waste bin, you’ll need to sign up to the garden waste service.

Compost bin

You can buy a 220 litre compost bin from us for £10 including delivery.

Order replacement recycling and food waste containers

If you have recycling boxes or food waste containers that have broken or gone missing, you can request for a replacement through MyAccount.

We will not collect the damaged containers. You can take any damaged containers to one of the recycling centres

Unwanted bins

If you have a garden waste bin that you don’t need and are not currently receiving collections from, you can request for it to be removed through MyAccount.

Unwanted bins should be left in an accessible place for the crew to collect. We will collect the bins within 28 working days.

We don’t collect unwanted garden waste sacks. Please reuse them or dispose of them responsibly by taking them to a recycling centre.
