Chemical or radiation incident

If you are involved in a radiation emergency or hear the Severnside Sirens, remember to go in, stay In, and tune in.

If you have been exposed to a hazardous substance, remember to remove, remove, remove.

Fuel shortage

See the RAC website on advice on how to save fuel during a shortage.

Also remember to

  • keep your speed down and at a constant level
  • plan your trip
  • find the shortest route (but avoid motorways)
  • combine multiple short trips into one longer trip
  • avoid unnecessary weight in the car
  • turn off the air conditioning and close the windows
  • check your tyre pressure and oil level
  • turn off the engine while stuck in traffic

Transportation incident

If you've been involved in a road traffic accident, see the AA website for advice on what to do after it happens.

Remember to

  • stop the vehicle as soon as possible
  • check for injuries
  • try to remain calm
  • exchange details with anyone involved in the accident

Utility outages

Electricity outage

To report an outage call National Grid on 105 or report a power cut online.

Gas leak

If you smell gas, call 0800 111 999. You can also read the National Gas's safety and advice.

  • not smoke or light matches
  • not turn electrical switches on or off
  • open doors and windows
