Comment on Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legal document  we use to restrict traffic on our roads.

Examples of the types of restrictions include

  • yellow lines
  • one way streets
  • banned turns
  • bus lanes

UK law requires that these documents are in place before the council or police can enforce these restrictions.

How TROs are made

First, a consultation takes place with the following groups

  • emergency services
  • local councillors
  • parish councils
  • local interest groups - such as residents and traders, where appropriate
  • any other interested bodies

Next, a notice is placed in the local press. Notices are also displayed in the roads affected giving details on how people can comment or object.

Objections and comments are then considered through the appropriate council procedure before it is decided how the matter will be taken forward.

The TRO is then formally made and introduced. The entire process can take many months to complete. If objections result in the TRO being changed and re-advertised, the process could take longer.

Permanent TROs

Our current permanent TROs can be viewed in our online map. This can be accessed via the button on this page.

Please note, currently only parking and moving restrictions are available on our notices page.

We are currently in the process of adding speed limits. If you have enquiries about speed limits, please drop us an email.
