You must apply for authorisation to erect temporary traffic management on the highway.
If you are not a utility company or statutory authority, this page enables you to apply for two-way or multi-way temporary traffic signals/other traffic controls relating to planned works on the highway. Fees apply.
You must apply to us at least 10 calendar days before the proposed start date of the work/activity to avoid any delays. Your application needs to include:
- contact details for who is promoting the work
- emergency contact details (must be 24 hours) of the contractor doing the work, in case there's a problem with the operation
- contractor/organisation undertaking the work
- contact information for the temporary traffic signal supplier: it's better to use a local supplier so they can get to the site quickly if there's a problem
- where the temporary signals are going to be
- when you're going to install them and take them away
- why you need them
- other things that might be impacted
If you require a temporary traffic regulation order (for a road closure or other temporary traffic restriction) please see our page on applying to close a road. Fees apply.
