An Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) is required when
- a correctly completed Ecological Checklist confirms that it is necessary or;
- where the proposal is likely to negatively affect nature habitats or protected species - unless a qualified ecologist confirms in writing that it is not required.
For smaller householder applications or barn conversions (if the development has a small footprint), the applicant’s ecologist can adapt the assessment so that the reporting is proportional to the size of the project.
Help and advice
We have created a guidance document, included on this page, to help you through the ecological survey process.
If you are submitting for a larger development, we suggest booking our pre-application service to advise on which surveys you might need.
