To minimise road disruption where possible and manage traffic diversion routes, the Winterstoke Road bridge project team have been co-ordinating with:
- North Somerset Council's highway maintenance team
- other major projects in the area such as Banwell bypass, A38 works and the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP)
- highways England who are working on M5 Junction 21
- local bus services
The project team will also be speaking with local businesses as well as those who run major events in the local area to ensure they understand the possible diversions.
Traffic count surveys at strategic points in the area have been carried out. When the bridge is closed, more traffic count surveys will be carried out to understand the change in traffic volume. This can help inform and target potential remedial action to improve traffic flows during the works, but there are limited things we can do.
There will be night-time working as part of the bridge building on the railway. It needs to be at night due to the trains that run during the day. The contractor will be putting in measures to reduce noise.
The temporary service bridge will run along Bronte Close. Cars will still be able to access driveways but the park at the bottom will be used as a northern compound for the contractors.
