Clevedon parks and open spaces volunteering

Clevedon Civic Society – Environment Group

This arm of the Civic Society works around Clevedon to improve the environment for everyone. They organise ‘The Big Litter Pick’ around Clevedon in the spring and carry out tasks such as weeding and painting infrastructure.

Clevedon Civic Society - Environment Group work closely with North Somerset Council and Clevedon Town Council.

Land Yeo Friends

Land Yeo Friends are an independent group of volunteers who maintain and enhance the Land Yeo river. They carry out tasks such as removal of debris and foliage within the water courses. Their aim is to improve the water quality for wildlife and access for users of the river path.

Some of the land they work on is owned by North Somerset Council. Any work taking place on this land has been agreed by council officers.

MARLENS

Since 2014, MARLENS have been working in partnership with North Somerset Council to manage Clevedon Marine Lake. 

Various activities and events take place on the lake in partnership with MARLENS.

MARLENS also arrange litter picks, small infrastructure repairs and upgrades, community projects and maintenance.

Poets Walk

Poets Walk in Clevedon is a local nature reserve and a scheduled ancient monument. The site spans the north-east corner of Clevedon and provides beautiful views across to Wales.

Friends of Poets Walk have been working in partnership with North Somerset Council since 2011 to increase biodiversity and improve habitats on the hill. They have carried out extensive scrub control which has resulted in the grassland greatly improving over the years. There is also a species rich bank which is full of flowers during the summer. 

The group also carry out litter picking, path clearance and general repairs on benches.

Woodcutters

Clevedon Woodcutters are an independent group that have been working in the Clevedon area since the 1990’s. They carry out work all over Clevedon including on some of North Somerset Council’s sites including Dial Hill and Poets Walk.

They focus on woodland improvement tasks which can include step repairs, scrub removal, orchard management and grass cutting.

Sunhill Park - Men in Sheds

Men in Sheds work on a number of projects for the local community including working with wood and upcycling projects. They carry out small gardening projects in Sunhill Park with the community centre based there. 

The community centre also carry out additional small tasks such as litter picking and small vegetation clearance works.
