About the SPHL project

We are inviting expressions of interest for a new Community Anchor role. You will form a key part of a new food insecurity project called Shaping Places for Healthier Lives (SPHL).

We are looking for interest from the following groups:

  • local voluntary
  • community
  • social enterprise
  • town councils

An overview of the project, a role brief and expression of interest form are available for you to review.

Deadline for expressions of interest is noon on Monday 19 June 2023.

About the project

The national SPHL project explores how we can take local action to improve health. Funded by the Health Foundation and managed by the Local Government Association, the project will run until Oct 2024 across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.

In this area, we will be focusing on the root causes of food insecurity in our local communities. In North Somerset, the focus will be on Weston central and south ward.

The project will not focus on crisis food support. Instead it will look for sustainable ideas to improve long term resident access to good quality, affordable food in their local area.

Community Anchor organisation - about the role

The Community Anchor organisation will take a lead in moving the SPHL project forward in the Weston Central and South Ward areas.

You will need strong links in those areas and an availability of around one day per week for the project. You will work with other local organisations to develop a project plan and decide on the use of project funding (£20,000).

You will also need to work closely with the SPHL project worker for North Somerset, Laura Flanagan.

To find out more about the role, including the expectations and what you would receive in return, please see our additional project pages.

How to get involved

If your organisation is interested in taking on the Community Anchor role, please complete the expression of interest form and submit by the deadline of noon on Monday 19 June 2023.
