Weston-super-Mare flooding campaign
The Environment Agency is running a campaign to raise awareness of the actions communities can take to prepare for flooding.
Weston-super-Mare has been chosen as one of the places to feature in the second year of a new hyper-local approach that the Environment Agency is piloting for its longstanding Flood Action Campaign.
The campaign is planned to take place in early 2024. Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire and Erewash in Derbyshire were the first to be selected.
The Environment Agency has partnered with organisations who work hard to help local communities prepare for and deal with the impacts of flooding, from emergency response through to mental health support, including North Somerset Council and local NHS services.
Locations
The 10 wards targeted in the campaign are:
- Weston-super-Mare Central
- Weston-super-Mare Hillside
- Weston-super-Mare South Ward
- Winterstoke
- Uphill
- Milton
- Mid Worle
- North Worle
- South Worle
- Kewstoke (includes Sand Bay)
Residents in these areas will receive leaflets through their doors during January and February 2024.
The information encourages residents to learn what actions to take if their area was impacted by flooding, where to find help and support if needed and how to take action to increase their resilience to future flooding.
Advertisements will be on display at key locations, including libraries, healthcare centres and leisure facilities in the surrounding area. Also look out for digital content promoting the campaign on social media and online.
