Organisations that care for and transport disabled people who would themselves qualify for a blue badge may apply for an organisational blue badge.
This badge may be used by the organisation when transporting disabled people who would be eligible for a blue badge in their own right. The badge is not allowed to be used at other times.
An ‘organisation’ is defined as meaning an organisation concerned with the care of disabled persons to which a disabled person’s badge may be issued in accordance with section 21(4) of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970.
Common examples of organisations that may be eligible include:
- residential care homes
- hospices
- local council social services departments
It is unlikely that taxi or private hire operators and community transport operators would be eligible for an organisational blue badge as they do not usually care for disabled people.
The parking concessions available for users of organisational blue badges are the same as those for blue badges issued to individuals.
