Following a successful selection process, a new operator has been found to run the Victorian Café on Weston-super-Mare’s seafront.

A collection of 20 books and additional digital resources are now available to support people living with dementia in North Somerset’s libraries, as well as their carers, friends and family. 

Two thousand plants have been successfully planted at the floral clock in Weston-super-Mare. The work has taken just over a week to complete, and was carried out by the North Somerset Council’s grounds maintenance contractors, Glendale.

Essential pothole and gully repairs will be completed on The Portbury Hundreds (A369) on Monday 13 May.

North Somerset Council has appointed a team led by architecture practice We Made That to design solutions for three improvement projects in Weston-super-Mare. These are: Grove Park, Marine Lake and ‘wayfinding’, encouraging people to move around the town centre and seafront.

The third and final year of the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) programme has begun helping residents and businesses gain new employment skills, obtain expert support and advice, create new opportunities, and build pride in their communities. 

Venue owners and managers across North Somerset are being urged to join a council scheme to help make sure the area has enough locations to use as rest centres in case of emergencies.

Hutton Moor Leisure Centre and Portishead Open Air Pool have both received funding for new power systems that will significantly improve their carbon outputs, making them greener and better for the environment.

All North Somerset libraries will be closed on Tuesday 7 May from 9.30am to 2pm, so staff can be trained in using a new computer system. All libraries will reopen as normal at 2pm.

Ambulances, fire engines, buses, refuse trucks and other service vehicles will be free to make easier journeys through West Hill in Portishead once a small change comes into force.

Residents, businesses and community groups in North Somerset are being urged to have their say on two important consultations before they close on Tuesday 7 May.
