Icescape and North Somerset Council have announced today that the winter attraction will not be opening in Weston-super-Mare this year.

Funding for services and community projects which support families and communities across North Somerset has been announced as North Somerset Council and Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (BNSSG ICB) continue their work to improve health and wellbeing for residents of all ages.

Clevedon Library will reopen next week, 30 years after its original opening, following a 16-week temporary closure to allow refurbishment to take place. The library, on Old Church Road, will reopen at 9.30am on Friday 14 October.

A range of services and community projects which help residents of all ages across North Somerset are benefiting from funding from North Somerset Council and Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (BNSSG ICB), as part of their ongoing commitment to tackling health inequalities across the area.

North Somerset Council has won more than £950,000 in government funding to support work to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping over the next three years. 

With the price of energy set to rise again at the weekend (1 October) North Somerset Council and its partners in the North Somerset Together network are working together to develop a network of community living rooms across the area to help people keep warm this winter.

A special event to bring together employers and employees, and highlight the important roles workplaces play in mental wellbeing will take place in North Somerset on World Mental Health Day (Monday 10 October).

Following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the bank holiday taking place on Monday 19 September for her State Funeral, there will be no recycling and waste collections in North Somerset that day.

The area’s three recycling centres at Backwell, Portishead and Weston-super-Mare will also be closed all day.

North Somerset Council has taken this decision to enable the focus of the day to be on paying respect to Her Majesty.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral will be held at 11am on Monday 19 September. The day has been declared an additional bank holiday in the UK so that people have an opportunity to pay their respects and commemorate her reign.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Italian Gardens in Weston-super-Mare yesterday (Sunday 11 September) to hear the local Proclamation on the accession of the new Sovereign, King Charles III.
